Caring With Confidence

Self-study workbooks

Caring with Confidence provides help for carers through home study workbooks.

The Caring with Confidence programme is no longer available to carers wishing to register for self-study workbooks.

However, the programme is still currently being delivered online or through local group sessions.

Please click on these links for further information about how to access the programme.

Working in collaboration with the National Extension College (NEC) who have expertise in home-study courses, we have adapted the programme into engaging, easy-to-follow workbooks which are completely free of charge. You have the flexibility to work through these in your own time and have access to a private online support site and, if you wish, the support of a personal mentor.

You do not need to have done any kind of self-study like this before in order to do a Caring with Confidence self-study workbook. But before deciding whether it is for you, see how many of the following statements you agree with:

  • I am pretty good at managing my own time and I will be able to find time to complete a workbook (roughly a total of three hours)
  • I don’t have time to spend three hours away from home all in one go to attend a group session
  • I feel fairly happy working through the session on my own with the support of a self-study mentor
  • I am a fairly competent reader.

If the answer to all these statements is yes, then self-study could be for you. If you are not sure about one or two of the statements, could a friend, neighbor or relative help?

What are the benefits of self-study workbooks?
  • work at your own pace and at a time convenient to you
  • do as much or as little at a time as you want
  • receive support from a self-study mentor by telephone and/or email
  • pick up details of the organisations you can go to for further information and advice
  • hear about stories from other carers
  • build up your own collection of resources and notes – the workbooks are yours to keep
  • access an online forum to talk to other carers.
